A Love Letter to The Hotel Chelsea
A Love Letter to The Hotel Chelsea, NYC.
My longtime muse…
A friend of mine recently commented “I love your relationship with this building (The Hotel Chelsea), and how wonderfully you express that love…”
And I thought to myself,
I guess I am having a relationship with The Chelsea.
It is rather one-sided, and I might be considered a stage five stalker if I was ever this obsessed about another human being -but the Hotel doesn’t seem to mind.
The Chelsea has had many lovers… some more troubled than others.
A beautiful, mysterious, muse to the creatives and “rare individuals”-
There is a quote from Julia Calfee “I did not choose The Chelsea Hotel, The Chelsea chose me.” and I felt that.
So, as I sit here soaking up the energy of my “lover” and muse and think about how far we have come together. From the wild late 90’s and early aughts, then a season where things fell apart, a long dormant period, then a rebirth.
Our “lives” seem to have paralleled each other.
Would I have traveled this far to spend my birthday with anyone else?
I don’t know…but as Cohen says “Those were the reasons…and that was New York”.
If you know, you know.
